Negative Sentences

Negative Sentences :


A positive sentence (PS) tells you that something is so. A sentence that tells you something is not so is called a negative sentence (NS). It contains a negative word like not, never, no, no one, nobody, none, or a negative verb like isn’t or can’t or won’t.


Peter is running. (PS)
He is not walking. (NS)

We should tell the truth. (PS)
We should never tell lies. (NS)

Everyone is in the garden. (PS)
There is no one in the house. (NS)

The fridge is empty. (PS)
There is nothing in it. (NS)

It is very cloudy. (PS)
It isn’t sunny. (NS)

I have sold the last newspaper. (PS)
I have no newspapers left. (NS)

Someone has eaten all the cookies. (PS) There are none in the bag. (NS)
