Adverbial Phrase




Adverbial Phrase :


A noun or a phrase consisting of a noun and its modifiers may be used adverbially. Such a noun is called an adverbial objective.

1. We have waited years for this reform.
2. I am years older than you are.
3. The river is miles away.
4. The water rose three feet.
5. This is an inch too long.
6. My brother is twenty years old.
7. I will stay a short time.
8. Wait a moment.
9. Come here this instant!
10. Turn your eyes this way.
11. This silk is several shades too light.

A group of words consisting of an adverbial object with its modifier or modifiers forms an adverbial phrase.
