What is the difference between Contagious and Infectious? :


Contagious : (adjective)

( 1 ) (Of a disease) spreading by contact

Scarlet fever is highly contagious one.

It was as contagious as smallpox.


( 2 ) Spreading easily from one person to another

Yawning is highly contagious.

Her confidence was contagious.



Infectious : (adjective)

( 1 ) (Of a disease) caused by bacteria, etc…

Influenza is highly infectious.


( 2 ) In danger of infecting others

While you have this rash, you are still infectious.


( 3 ) Quickly influencing others likely to spread to others

I find her enthusiasm infectious.
