Clench : (verb)

1 ) Close something tightly or press two things firmly together
Clench your fists.
He clenched his teeth.

2 ) Grasp or hold someone / something firmly
He clenched the railings with both his hands.
Clinch : (verb)
(
1 ) Fix a nail firmly in place by hammering sideways the end of that sticks out
(
2 ) Confirm or settle something finally
(
3 ) (Of boxers) hold each other tightly with the arms
The boxers clinched and the referee had to separate them.
The scene ended as the lovers clinched.
