Can : (noun)

1 ) Metal or plastic container for holding or carrying liquids
It is a petrol can.

2 ) Sealed tin in which food or drink is preserved and sold
(
3 ) Contents of or amount contained in a can
He bought a can of peaches.
He drank two cans of milk.
Cane : (noun)
(
1 ) Hollow joined stem of certain plants, such as bamboo, sugarcane, etc…
(
2 ) Such stems used as a material for making furniture, etc…
It is a cane chair.
(
3 ) Length of cane used as a walking stick or for beating people as punishment
Cane : (verb)
(
1 ) Punish someone by beating with a cane
The Headmaster caned ten boys for disobedience.
(
2 ) Defeat someone totally
We really caned them in the last match.
