Baton :

( 1 ) Short thin stick used by the conductor of a band or orchestra

( 2 ) Short stick that indicates a certain rank

It is a Field-Marshall baton.


( 3 ) Short stick carried and handed on in a relay race

Button : (noun)

( 1 ) Knob or disc made of wood, metal, etc. sewn onto a garment as a fastener or an ornament

He bought twenty trouser buttons.


( 2 ) Small knob that is pressed to operate a doorbell - a switch on a machine and so on
