Toy Propellers

Propellers are the fans which you find in front of the aeroplanes. They push the air backwards and take the plane forward.

For making one such propeller….

Things Required : a ruler, two jar lids of different sizes, a hand held fan, clay, some marbles and a small block of wood.

Activity : First, fill the smaller lid with marbles. Then stick it to the block of wood, so that it is above it. Attach the hand held fan to one end of the ruler. And attach a small weight to the other end of the ruler, so that the weights of both the sides are equal. Now attach the ruler to the larger lid with clay and then place it on the marbles in the smaller lid. The fan is now on the top, in a horizontal position. Start the fan. You will see the fans blowing air to its rear and the ruler moving in a circular direction as pulled by the fan. Now the fan is a propeller.
