The Spin Dryer

All of us have washing machines at home. When the washing and rinsing process is over, the machine moves at a very high speed. This movement removes the water from the clothes. The spin dryer does this. It is a fun to make a model spin dryer and see how it works.

Things Required : A mug of water, scissors, a knitting needle, a plastic bag, a net bag, adhesive tape of two different colours, a string, a piece of cloth.

Activity : The water level in the mug is marked with a tape. The cloth is placed in the net bag and is completely soaked in the water. The knitting needle is pushed through the net bag. The cloth and the bag are hung above the mug for about 40 minutes. The water drips into the mug. Again the water level in the mug is marked with the tape of the other colour. Two holes are pierced at the top of the plastic bag and the net bag is placed inside the plastic bag. The tops of the bags are tied with the string. Holding the string, the bags are swung carefully for about two to three minutes in a circle.

Untying the bags, the water collected in the plastic bag is poured in the mug. Mark the level of water in the mug again and see how much water has been wrung out from the cloth during spin-drying.
