Composer Felix Mendelssohn composed these Songs without Words. He was a romantic composer. There are eight volumes in this collection. Each volume has six songs. These songs were written and composed at various periods in his life span. Of these eight volumes, two were brought out to public after his death. As the strong effect of these songs, PIANO became a status symbol among the middle-c lass people in Europe. The first volume had the title of ORIGINAL MELODIES FOR THE PIANOFORTE. Only the other seven volumes had the titles SONGS WITHOUT WORDS. The main theme of these eight volumes of songs was Romance. Although there are other volumes with the same title, they were not included in this collection of eight volumes. Felix Mendelssohn did not like his songs to be translated into other languages.
