Slangs





Slangs are the expressions which are used in their most informal usages.Slang is language at its most informal, using expressions that many would consider to be grammatically imperfect and sometimes rude. Slang often used within small social groups where it can help draw and keep the group together. It changes very quickly in English.

Cockney Rhyming Slangs are the specialised forms of slangs used in the East of London. This kind of Slang is a kind of antilanguage where words are replaced by phrases that rhyme (sound the same): North and south = mouth Adam and Eve = believe Sometimes, the last word is dropped.

Dab : (UK) A dab is a fingerprint.

Dab hand : A 'dab hand' is an expert.

Daggy : (AU) If something is daggy, it is unfashionable or lacking in style.

Daps : (USA) Daps are trainers.

Datastreaming : Datastreaming is obtaining credit card details in order to create a counterfeit card.

Dekecking : (UK) Dekecking is forcibly removing someone's trousers as drunken entertainment.

Delhi belly : (UK) Delhi belly = stomach upset, diarrhoea/diarrhea caught when travelling.

Demob happy : (UK) Someone who is demob happy knows that they are going to retire or leave a position and are behaving with greater freedom and careless abandon.

Desk monkey : A desk monkey is a clerk or someone in administration, with the idea that they are responsible for unnecessary and irritating paperwork.

Det : (UK) If something's det, it's good.

Dib : (USA) A dib is a share of the proceeds of a crime.

Dibs : (UK) Dibs are the police.

Dick flick : A dick flick is a film that appeals predominantly to men.

Dick pillows : A woman's lips are her dick pillows.

Diddly squat : If someone knows diddly squat about something, they know nothing.

Diet Coke : If you are the diet coke of something, you don't have what it takes, or you're inadequate.Eg. If you're not evil enough, you're the diet coke of evil!

Dime : (USA) A dime is a 10 cent coin.

Dingo : If you dingo a partner, you leave them or fail to turn up for an arranged meeting.

Dink : Dinks (Dual Income, No Kids) are professional couples without children, who have a lot of disposable income.

Dip : A dip is a pickpocket.

Dipstick : A dipstick is a stupid person, an idiot.

Dirt cheap : If something's dirt cheap, it's very inexpensive.

Disgustable : (USA) If something is disgustable, it is very disgusting indeed.

Diss : If you diss someone, you show them that you don't respect them. (it comes from 'disrespect')

Ditzy : 'Ditzy' is an adjective and means 'eccentric or scatterbrained, silly or stupid'. ('Ditsy' is also used.)

Div : (UK) A div is an idiot. ('Divvy' is an alternative form, also used as an adjective.)

Do a bamber : (UK) If you do a bamber, you make a mistake.

Do someone a solid : (USA) If you do someone a solid, you are doing them a favor.

Do your dhobi : If you do your dhobi, you do your laundry.

Do your lolly : If you do your lolly it means you get very angry and clearly show this to others by your actions (eg shouting, going red in the face, showing aggression verbally and physically).

Dobber : (UK) A dobber is a condom.

Doddle : (UK) If something is a doddle, it is very easy.

Dodgy : (UK) If something is dodgy, it is stolen, suspect or suspicious. t can also be used for people who are suspect or untrustworthy.

Dog : A dog is a very ugly woman.

Dog's bollocks : (UK) If something's the dog's bollocks, it's extremely good.

Dogging : Dogging is having sex in public places in front of other people.

Don : (UK) Something that's don is very good.

Doobie : (USA) 'Doobie' is a term for a cannabis cigarette.

Dooced : If someone loses their job because of something the wrote online, especially in a blog, they get dooced.

Doozy : (USA) A doozy is something extraordinary or unusual.

Dope : 'Dope' is a term for the drug marijuana.

Dope : (USA) If something's dope, it's very good.

Dosh : (UK) 'Dosh' means 'money'.

Doss : (UK) If someone dosses, they don't do any work, or as little as possible. As a noun, if something is a doss, it doesn't require much or any effort.

Dough : Dough is money.

Drive a subway : (USA) To drive a subway means to behave dishonestly. Eg. I don't want to work with Jenny because she's been driving a subway. Meaning: I don't want to work with Jenny because she's been behaving dishonestly.

Drive-by download : A drive-by download is a program that starts an automatic download of a program when someone visits a webpage.

Drongo : (AU) A drongo is an idiot.

Drop : If someone gets dropped, they get knocked down in a fight.

Drop the skinny : (USA) If you drop the skinny on something, you give out the inside or secret information about it.

Duds : Duds are clothes.

Due South : If something is heading due South, it is failing.

Duke it out : (USA) If people duke it out, they fight or compete for something or to see who's best.

Dunny : (AU) A dunny is an outside toilet.

Duss : (UK) If you duss, you leave a place.

Dust bunny : (USA) A dust bunny is a ball of clump of dirt or hair found under furniture, etc.

Dutch oven : When you fart in bed, under the covers (and hold the smell under the covers until your bedmate joins you).

Dutch wife : A Dutch wife is an inflatable sex doll or, sometimes, a prostitute.
