Producing Carbon Dioxide

Take two plastic bottles, a cork, a thin plastic tube, some sodium bicarbonate and some vinegar. First pierce the cork to make a hole. Insert the plastic tube into the hole.

Then put some vinegar and some soda bicarbonate into the bottle. You should place cork on the plastic bottle immediately.

Now collect the gas that is coming out of the tube in the other bottle which has been arranged in an up-side-down position in a bowl of water as shown in the figure. Light a matchstick and move the mouth of gas collected bottle over the flame. The flame will immediately extinguish, because it cannot burn in carbon dioxide.
