A mother and her child have a combined weight of 150n pounds. If the mother’s weight is 5 times her child’s weight, what is the weight, in pounds, of the child?

Since we are asked to state the weight of the child, assume that to be X. Then, the mother’s weight is 5X.From this statement, we get the equation 5X+X=150. That means, 6X=150. Then X=25.
So the weight of the child is 25 pounds.
(D) is the answer.
