Even blood relationship to a certain extent depends on wealth and fame. A person who is wealthy and famous will always be the apple of the eye for his close relative. They will most willingly and proudly claim to be his relation. At the same time, if he happens to be a failure in life even his own brothers and sisters may disown him. Thus the proverb is true in the sense that a person who has his purse full is never short of friends.
