GRE : Problem Solving
Example-4
Question
Furniture was bought at a 40% reduction sale for $165.00. What was the listed price of the furniture?
(A) $ 275.00
(B) $ 175.00
(C) $ 200.00
(D) $ 375.00
(E) $ 300.00
Analysis
If the listed price of the furniture was $ X, it is given that 60% of $ X is equal to $165.00.
= 60X / 100 = 165
= X = [165 x 100] / 60
= X = 16500/60
= X = 275.
So, the listed price of the furniture is $275.00.
So, the answer is (A).
