Direct Speech :


In direct speech we reproduce the actual words of the speaker. The words of the speaker are put in inverted commas.


Examples :


  • Ashok said to Santhosh, “My father is going to Mumbai tomorrow.”

  • Raveendran told his mother, “I will come to Delhi next week.”

  • Jack said to his father, “Would you pick up the courier parcel on behalf of me?”



    Indirect Speech :


    In indirect speech, we do not reproduce the actual words of the speaker. We report the speech after making some changes.


    Examples :


  • Ashok said to Santhosh that his father was going to Mumbai the next day.

  • Raveendran told his mother that he would come to Delhi next week.

  • Jack asked his father whether he would you pick up the courier parcel on behalf of Jack.
