Eponyms
Called Eponyms, many words tell interesting tales about their origins. Wittingly or unwittingly, few people and places have left their names for posterity through words that were coined after them. These words are derived from the names of real, fictional, mythical or spurious persons, places or characters, although Eponyms come from the persons, surname.
Here is The List of Eponyms beginning with K.
Knickerbockers: Noun
Full breeches gathered and banded just below the knee, knickers
This tern is derived from Dietrich Knickerbocker, the fictitious author of History of New York (1809), which was actually authored by Washington Irving (1783-1859). The meaning is supposedly derived from the knee breeches worn by Dutch settlers in Irving’s book.
