Ban : noun : order which forbids someone from doing something

• A government ban on the import of weapons


• A ban on the export of computer software


Overtime Ban : order by a trade union which forbids overtime work by its members

• To impose a ban on smoking : to make an order which forbids smoking


• To lift the ban on smoking : to allow people to smoke


• To beat the ban on something : to do something which is forbidden - usually by doing it rapidly before a ban is imposed or by finding a legal way to avoid a ban
