Acoustics( Noun ) Pronunciation : aka-sti-ks 1. The scientific study of sound ( takes a singular verb ) 2. The characteristic way in which sound carries or can be heard within an enclosed space such as an auditorium ( takes a plural verb ) 3. Quality that makes a room easy or hard to hear in Synonyms: Phonetics, Harmonics Contextual Example: • He was a teacher of acoustics and a student of electricity, possibly the only man in his generation who was able to focus a knowledge of both subjects upon the problem of the telephone.
